Paul Hetherington's Testimony

God saving me.

God has shown me in His word that I am a sinner, and at an early age and He brought me to see that Christ died for my sins.

I can not recall an exact date when the Lord saved me, probably because I was so young. But I believe that it does not matter so much as to when I was saved. But what matters is that I know that I am saved and the saving grace of God has changed me.

I know that I am saved because my priorities and choices are different and I know that Christ is my saviour and that the Holy Spirit lives in me, and without God I can do nothing and can not be with Him in glory.

I don’t just feel, or have an out cry against my sin but really I hate my sin and am very sad when I sin.

I also keep on asking for forgiveness when I sin. And now I don’t want to sin but I want to do what pleases God, but I know I can’t do this on my own but daily ask for His help.

Pilgrims Progress

From a very early age I have always liked to listen to Pilgrim’s Progress every night before I go to bed so that I have something to think about for that evening. I have learnt a lot from Pilgrims Progress.

It has taught me the trials and temptations that are in this life and how difficult this life can be. It has also taught me spiritual things and how to live, because it is based on the truth of the Bible, and without the Bible we have no truth and therefore we have no starting point.

Other Books

I have also read many other Christian books on the lives of Christian people whose lives were greatly devoted to God.

Men like Charles Spurgeon, Polycarp, Adoniram Judson, John Welsh, John Newton, and presently I am reading about the life of Jim Elliott.

The lives of these people have shown me how they lived to the glory of God and have influenced me by the things they did.

My life now

I like to be at church to praise God and to have fellowship with Gods people. The Sabbath day, Sunday is also given for man, for our good to worship God.

I also enjoy going to church because I learn the Bible. I also learn a lot at family Bible studies at home in the morning and evening I enjoy them because the morning study has a thought for the day and the evening study teaches me a lot.

In other words I want to make God the centre of my life and to do everything that is pleasing to Him. But I can not do it perfectly so I need to ask for Gods help and forgiveness.

I have always felt that these words in Paul’s letter to the Galatians is a very important truth about what happens to Christians when they are saved.

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me”

It speaks about some one who is a Christian and because so, they no longer live to themselves but to Christ now lives in them.

Here is a hymn that I like to sing at church, because the words mean so much to me. They speak about all my hope being in Christ, who is the only perfectly righteous one, and who died on the cross in the sinners place such as I.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the thron
